Crown Hotel

This famous Emsworth Inn dates right back to the 16th Century.

The Crown is Grade II listed and is the earliest known inn in Emsworth, opening as the Three Crowns Country Inn prior to 1665.  In 1724 it had expanded with a stable for coaching horses, its own brewhouse and an alehouse adjoining it. The inn changed its name to The Crown in 1785 and was so popular it was mentioned in the book of coaching inns of 1790.

By 1875 it had become even larger, with 9 bedrooms for guests, a sitting room, billiard room, bar parlour, coffee room, commercial room and bar. To service guests it had wine and beer cellars, a kitchen, pantry and larder, washhouse, knife house and even its own garden and pigsty.
